InfoWorld review: Desktop virtualization made easy
5 January 2011, 5:00 am

Right?

How to enhance your career with cloud computing
5 January 2011, 5:00 am

Many practitioners in IT are ill-prepared for the continued emergence of cloud computing. Although this ignorance was almost cute in 2010, it will be career-limiting this year.

Apple formally declares its enterprise intentions
5 January 2011, 3:54 pm

Back in 2008, Apple's vice president of enterprise sales left the company and his position was never refilled. That fact fueled the ongoing argument that Apple is not an enterprise company and has no aspirations to be one.

What's beyond 10G Ethernet?
30 December 2010, 5:00 am

So 10G Ethernet is now taking off -- 10G accounts for roughly 25 percent of the $18 billion Ethernet switching market and the growth trajectory is only up from there.

Which begs the question: What's next?

URL-shortening services gave hackers a new entry point
31 December 2010, 5:00 am

For most of us, April 30 was just another day. But if you're a security expert, you may recall that it was the day that nearly 20 percent of the hundreds of millions of spam emails clogging the Web contained a URL from a link-shortening service.

Software security: Honesty is the best policy
6 January 2011, 5:00 am

Every developer knows the importance of issuing security patches. Unexpected bugs that lead to software vulnerabilities are virtually unavoidable; the key is to acknowledge them when they're discovered and issue fixes before they can be widely exploited. But what do you do when you believe vulnerabilities may have been introduced into your code base intentionally?

Hackers find new way to cheat on Wall Street -- to everyone's peril
6 January 2011, 5:00 am

High-frequency trading networks, which complete stock market transactions in microseconds, are vulnerable to manipulation by hackers who can inject tiny amounts of latency into them. By doing so, they can subtly change the course of trading and pocket profits of millions of dollars in just a few seconds, says Rony Kay, a former IBM research fellow and founder of a cPacket Networks, a Silicon Valley firm that develops chips and technologies for network monitoring and traffic analysis.

Why Google should buy Amazon.com
6 January 2011, 5:00 am

While the cloud computing acquisitions are coming fast and furious, few have been the megadeals that many have been expecting. However, now that 2011 is well underway and the market seems to be bouncing back, count on some surprising large business moves. I think one should be Google taking a run at Amazon.com.
